Sometimes, we expect too much from a New Year. We put too much pressure on it to solve all our problems from the year before. I haven’t made an official “New Year’s Resolution” in a long time. Having any kind of grand goal felt unrealistic and unachievable.
But one thing I’ve learned: Big changes in your life come from the small changes done consistently. So, you don’t need to make it over the mountain by 2026, just make the next step over and over again.
Here are some things I’m giving my energy to in 2025, without any timelines or number to hit. Take any or all that you like for yourself:
- Writing letters–the ones that go in the real mailbox!–to friends and family, whenever I can. In college, I loved sending mail to my friends who attended different schools, and receiving their letters back. (Yes, I’m that old.)
- Trying different morning rituals until I find the one I like the best. I used to be a morning person, and I just want to love mornings again.
- Playing more music in my home, rather than turning on the TV—cause who doesn’t love a good dance party while cleaning the kitchen?!
I’ve gone through some years that were just about surviving. If that’s where you are, I see you and think you’re incredible!
No matter your journey for the next 365, I hope you find the joy in it.
